Day 2, July 8, 2021. Klamath Falls to Kennewick, WA, 361 miles. Morning was smoky and cool, made for a very red sunup,,,,
Headed north, lots of trees to look at, after all this is Oregon. Arrived in Madras, OR and guess what, the old car guy on the edge of town is still there,,,,,
This same gentleman helped us in 2001 when we were driving north in our Model A and the generator expired. We asked if he had or know where we could get a gernerator, he did not have one but said "I know a Model A guy." He called Dennis Prince (who is here in Spokane this week) and he said he would loan us one. He actually removed it from his pickup and said to send it back when we were done. We went on to Calgary and then back home on that generator, then mailed it back to him with a dried fruit basket from the Santa Clara Valley. That is the kind of people who are in our old car clubs.
Before leaving Madras, Ray found this on his trailer.
So Ray hit the local Les Schwab tire center and actually replaced two tires. The question is, what made that tire wear that way? Ray says he never locked up the brakes. ?????
While Ray was at the tire shop, some of us went on to Shaniko, a semi-ghost town on Hwy 97. This little hamlet of 15 persons (in 2021) was once known as the Wool Capital of the World. They had a railroad and everything and shipped tens of thousands of sheep every year. But alas, fame was fleeting and the town soon faded.
We supported the local economy by having a hoagie lunch at the Wild and Wooly sandwich window, place your order and the young man inside magically produces your sandwich which we enjoyed down the street at some picnic tables. Topped the whole thing off with an ice cream cone from the ice cream parlor, the only other food establishment in town..
In the meantime, the J family found this item which the kids could not identify,,,,, think about it....
Also found a Texas BBQ which made for a happy group,,,,
Leaving OR and into WA, nothing but golden wheat fields everywhere, and grain elevators. It is harvest season, so lots of combines at work making real gold for the farmers.
Pat's favorite sign for the day, "Do not pass snowplows on the right." And I think they should add: "with your window open!
Arrived in Kennewick, WA for the night. Opened our motel room door, and found a strong skunk smell in the room. Hmmmm,,,, ruled out the skunk possibility and turned the air conditioner on high before we got high!
That's all for today, folks.

Good thinking on the air conditioner. :-) Also like the proposed addition to the snowplows sign.
