THE GREAT SOLAR ECLIPSE LOOP TOUR - Day 17

September 1, 2017,  Coos Bay, OR to Eureka, CA,  234 miles.

Driving down the road, how can you resist this sign on the side road straight ahead?

That side street took us up to this viewpoint overlooking the Port Orford Harbor.  No boats in the water, all up on the wharf.

How strange, here is the explanation for this arrangement,,,,,

Our drive down the Oregon coast was incredibly smoky, the usually beautiful scenery was hard to see through the smoke, actually burned your eyes.   Kinda like driving in a fog,,,,

Last sign leaving Oregon,,,,,

California, here we come, right back where we started from.....

Ice cream stop in Orrick,  this jogs my memory, I think we had a family reunion here once.  Funky little store probably hasn't changed in 50 years.

Spending tonight in Eureka, CA.  Smoke is better, not totally gone, but much better.   Walking to dinner, spotted these two murals on a sporting goods store,  the question is, what exactly is happening in these murals, why is the man tied to the horns?   What are they looking at on shore?  Beautiful murals, real head scratchers.  Click on them for a larger version to look at.

Tomorrow, the big push for home, 315 miles, and it is going to be hotter than heck, it was 108 in Los Altos today.   We will be leaving in the dark to beat at least some of the heat.
