Day 12 – Boy, she’s hot.

It was hard to leave Pat’s family in PA and head down the road. We were on the road at 6:00 am to continue east. It seemed a bit strange to be traveling alone in our Model A. We hit a lot of construction which seems to be normal in PA. Near as I can tell, at any given time, half the roads in PA are under construction. There were several antique stores open and of course Bob couldn’t pass them up. No treasures found today. Passed through some beautiful farm land with big barns and manicured lawns. This was Mennonite country. A black truck pulled up beside us and motioned for me to roll down the window. I could see his police emblem on his shirt sleeve so I’m thinking what did we do now? He said, “that is a great Ford”, phew!

Bob had to drive through State College in PA but he couldn’t recognize anything after more than 40 years. Oh, he did find the Hammond Engineering Building. Everything else has changed a lot and of course there is even a Starbucks across from the building now.

Our coupe got the shimmy today, apparently the result of adjusting the brakes while we stayed in Weirton. We stopped several times to make adjustments, trying to find the right combination of tightening one wheel and loosening others. Seems to be cured for the moment. We are overnighting in Hazleton and boy, she’s hot outside. (That’s local PA talk.)

A few pictures for your enjoyment. The bridges of Washington County, and Jason, Luci-jo and 3 week old baby Noah.

We think everyone has made it to Mansfield but us, although Jack is incommunicado. We should be in to Mansfield late on Tuesday.

Late breaking emails: John and Judy and Will and Dave and Susan arrived in Mansfield on Sunday. One new picture, John and Will celebrating in the Poconos.

I was beginning to wonder if you had decided to abandon the trip and stay in West Virginney. Love the picture of the car on the bridge, a classic! It's hot here too, at least 100 at one time this afternoon. Stay cool and Welcome to Massachusettes!

Congratulations - you have really been in it for the long haul. Have fun and enjoy being in the same state for a few days! Don't even think of the long trip back . . . just think about the memories you are making and the stories you will have to, I mean get to, tell again and again!

What a good lookin' boy in that photo with the car! (can't imagine where he got the looks with those folks for parents). About the last title, Uncle Kenny is looking down and laughing, "boy she's hot niece!". Good luck on the rest of the trip!

Hot out huh? Course you know us Phoenix folks will snicker at that. It's supposed to be 112 here today. Jane and I drove through Death Valley on the way home from Mt. Whitney yesterday and it was 122 degrees...yikes!

Glad you guys are having fun. Don't forget to eventually turn around and head back our way.

Bob and Pat,
We have read every one of your posts to the blog and the related comments. Your trip through the Amish countryside and on up through the eastern part of Penn. makes us want to go back through there again. Last trip was it was raining and much too rushed. Keep posting your experiences and photos and be safe and enjoy the trip. Will Ed and Linda in Texas

Since you are going to be in Red Sox country and you are on a car trip...

A Red Sox fan liked to amuse himself by scaring every Yankees fan he saw strutting down the street in an obnoxious New York Yankees pinstripe shirt. He would swerve his van as if to hit them, then swerve back just missing them.

One day, while driving along, he saw a priest. He thought he would do a good deed, so he pulled over and asked the priest, "Where are you going, Father?" "I'm going to give Mass at St. Francis church, about two miles down the road," replied the priest. "Climb in, Father. I'll give you a lift!" The priest climbed into the passenger seat, and they continued down the road.

Suddenly, the driver saw a Yankees fan walking down the road, and he instinctively swerved as if to hit him. But, as usual, he swerved back onto the road just in time. Even though he was certain that he had missed the guy, he still heard a loud THUD. Not knowing where the noise came from, he glanced in his mirrors but still didn't see anything.

He then remembered the priest, and he turned to the priest and said, "Sorry, Father, I almost hit that Yankees fan."

"That's OK," replied the priest, "I got him with the door."
