MARQUETTE – Day 15

A full day on Mackinac Island, absorbing the history, and the general quaintness of a town frozen in time (almost).  Click on any picture for a larger version. Most folks opted for a wagon tour of Mackinac, Pat and I rented a tandem bicycle and took the perimeter road around the island. TDSC02753 Found a natural limestone arch,,,,TDSC02752 and a potential resort for sale, only 1.9 million, some work required,,,,,TDSC02756 especially the dock,,,,,TDSC02755 Visited the fort which changed hands back and forth to the British several times,,,,,, TDSC02762 Nice toys, they actually fired one of these every hour,,,,TDSC02767 Pat found tea,,,,TDSC02763 with a view,,,,,,TDSC02764The SCVC group gathered at the Mission Point Resort for dinner, nice architecture……TDSC02750  Lot of history on Mackinac Island, it was a focal point in the great lakes area, first for the Indians, then for the early explorers, then for the fur trade, then became a tourist destination clear back in the 1890’s.  They banned horseless carriages clear back in 1898.  Neat place to visit.

Beautiful! Bike is the way to go on Mackinac and a tandem bike is even better! What fun!

Bob,good to see you protected your ears whilst firing a volley from the cannon! Nice to give the cars a rest too, probably. ENJOY!

A spot of tea after a nice bike ride sounds about right.

Can you tow home one of those cannons behind the Model A?
