MARQUETTE – Day 4

Winslow to Albuquerque, 282 miles.  Here is our day: Click on any pic for a larger version.

Early morning in the parking lot, trying to get this gang moving.TDSC02400Standing on the corner in Winslow, AZ, remember the song?TDSC02402  The Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, AZ.  This is still a functioning motel, couldn’t survive anywhere but on Route 66.TDSC02407Pat found a new friend.  This gentleman was admiring our Model A’s at the Wigwam, cause he used to have Model A’s. His name is Wylie Rogers, 90 years old, WW2 veteran, he was a gunner on the Douglas Dauntless dive bombers. Really an interesting guy to talk with.TDSC02409 Followed our noses to the Richardson Trading Post in Gallup.  What they had inside here blew our minds.TDSC02420 Millions and millions of dollars worth of turquoise.TDSC02417 Plus Indian rugs.  These ones hanging from the ceiling are priced at one hundred thousand dollars.  TDSC02418 Crossed into New Mexico, scenery changed to lots of red tones and sandstone buttes.TDSC02410

All cars in tonight.  Today vapor lock reared its ugly head.  Even though the temperature was only 89, it struck Chuck and Bob M.  Surprised after surviving Barstow, Amboy and Needles, all well over 100 degrees. Must have something to do with the altitude here. We do fine as long as we keep moving, but any stop allows too much heat soaking from the engine.  Oh well, break out the aluminum foil.

We enjoyed hearing from you at the meeting tonight. Somebody asked why it was taking you so long to get there? Must be all those souvenir shops to stop for. Good luck and enjoy the sunshine.

Now if we were along, I'd pull a nice Zenith out of our magic parts box, and no more problems...

We missed reading Day 3 yesterday. But what a treat to read Day 3 & Day 4 at the same time. It's like a soap opera. Love the pictures & stories.

Hi Patti,
I checked on mail. One more L.L.Registration. Everything else o.k. Except that you're not supposed to use Spam for a paperweight! I took it away from you! :-)
Thanks,
