MARQUETTE Day - 8

Springfield, MO to Springfield, IL, 363 miles.  Click on any picture for a larger version. We decided to increase the miles for today and tomorrow to get back onto our scheduled track, so we did a little less sightseeing and a lot more driving today. But we did manage to spend a few miles on some old 66 byways.TDSC02539 TDSC02541Pat even rescued a poor dumb turtle from the middle of the road.TDSC02538  Stopped by a Stonehenge Model in Rolla, MO,,,TDSC02548 Admired the murals in Cuba, MOTDSC02550 TDSC02553 That is a Model T Ford on the Mural.   Visited the restored Wagon Wheel Motel (also in Cuba), that’s the ladies checking out a room.TDSC02558 Stopped at an info center, thought I had vapor lock, so wrapped everything in tinfoil and sprinkled it with water, none of which worked,,,,,,,,,,,,,because the real problem was I forgot to turn on the gas valve…..TDSC02560 Crossed the mighty Mississippi,,,,TDSC02565  and didn’t stop until Springfield, IL, cause it was getting hot and late.  We got a call from Elderton, he almost caught up with us but broke a crank 35 miles from Springfield.    Not good.

Oh No! Not a crank shaft. Hope they can get it replaced. What pretty country. Love the bridge and the rock motel. Really looks like you had a fun trip today even if it was longggg.
BBQ at Bertolotti's was going great when I left. Linda has everything under control.
